چکیده
Grand unified theories can admit cosmic strings with fermion zero modes. Such zero modes result in the string being current-carrying and the formation of stable remnants, vortons. However, the string zero modes do not automatically survive subsequent phase transitions. In this case the vortons dissipate. It is possible that the dissipating cosmic vortons create the observed baryon asymmetry of the universe. We show that fermion zero modes are an automatic consequence cosmic strings in supersymmetric theories. Since su-persymmetry is not observed in nature, we consider possible supersymmetry breaking terms. Some of these terms result in the zero modes being destroyed. We calculate the baryon asymmetry generated by the consequent dissipating cosmic vortons. If the supersymmtry breaking scale is high enough, then the dissipating cosmic vortons could account for the observed baryon asymmetry.

The big bang model and the history of the early universe according to the grand unified theories are introduced. The shortcomings of big bang are discussed together with their resolution by inflationary cosmology. Inflation, the subsequent oscillation and decay of the inflaton, and the resulting ‘reheating’ of the universe are studied. The density perturbations produced by inflation and the tem...

I describe the construction of effective field theories for equilibrium high-temperature plasma of elementary particles. 1 Motivation High-temperature and dense matter of elementary particles appears in several areas of physics. The first and most familiar example is the Universe at the early stages of its expansion. The Big Bang theory (for reviews see, e.g. 1,2) states that the Universe was h...

In the presence of anomaly induced sphaleron process, only a B − L asymmetry can be partially converted to the baryon asymmetry while any B+L asymmetry would be completely erased. Thus in any successful baryogenesis theories, B−L is usually violated above the electroweak scale to explain the observed matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe. However, if any lepton asymmetry is not affected b...

We examine the conditions for a viable Affleck–Dine baryogenesis in supergravity (SUGRA) scenarios, finding surprisingly strong constraints on the type of SUGRA theory. These constraints are beautifully fulfilled by string-based SUGRA models provided that inflation is driven by a modulus (T ) field. We measure the sphaleron rate (topological susceptibility) of hot SU(2) gauge theory, using a lattice implementation of the hard thermal loop (HTL) effective action. The HTL degrees of freedom are implemented by an expansion in spherical harmonics and truncation. Our results for the sphaleron rate agree with the parametric prediction of Arnold, Son and Yaffe: Γ ∝ α 5 T 4. Baryon number is not a...
